Home Learning

We are conscious that we do not want to encroach upon family life with stressful ‘homework’, so have designed our approach carefully so that it is bespoke to what we feel our children need and can be easily managed within the timeframes in which it is set.

Example:

Home Learning (in some schools referred to as ‘homework’) is an expectation for children in our school for the following reasons:

  • We are ambitious for our children and want them to further their knowledge and skills to be their very best;
  • We recognise that families would like further information about what their child is learning – this is incorporated into our format with modelled examples of core learning to help families in supporting at home;
  • Neuroscience research shows that content that is not repeated and revisited is lost, and therefore more opportunities to practise will only benefit the process of long-term memory acquisition;
  • Families often tell us that children leave school for the day unable to articulate what they have been doing – our format focuses on building children’s communication of their learning and extending that into the home environment;
  • We are committed to preparing our children for both their secondary school experiences and the world beyond this, through gradually building up their resilience and time management skills.
